Stealth

The South Lyon Stealth travel softball program offers the community highly-competitive softball teams led by coaches who truly value the development of each individual player according to her own goals and abilities. Coaches focus on solid softball fundamentals with age-appropriate expectations and set goals to promote the growth of each player for high school ball and beyond.

Teams are selected based on age eligibility and skill level. If a player will be 10 years or younger by the end of this calendar year, she is eligible to play on one of our 10u teams. We also field 12u, 14u, 16u and 18u teams. Play begins in the fall with occasional playing opportunities and weekly practices throughout the winter months. For the spring and summer, coaches may choose to create a schedule that includes a combination of league and tournament play.

Stealth Frequently Asked Questions

Does my player need to register for tryouts?
We do ask that parents fill out a quick online form with basic player information before attending tryouts. To access the form, click here.

There are three dates listed for tryouts – a pre-tryout workout and two different tryout times. Should my player attend all of these?
If possible, it’s a great idea to make it out to all of your player’s age-appropriate events. Attending all three sessions gives coaches a great opportunity to observe each player’s abilities and skills. We do understand that conflicts may arise. If you’re not able to attend all of the tryout activities, we suggest reaching out to the coaches in your daughter’s age group to give them a heads up. For families who will be out of town or unavailable during the entire tryout week, it may be possible to arrange a private tryout.

What can my daughter expect at tryouts?
Tryouts are structured to give players a chance to show their skills in fielding, throwing, catching, hitting, pitching, running and sliding. Coaches strive to be encouraging and positive during tryouts, even as they evaluate players and make decisions about how best to fill their rosters. We ask that players arrive dressed in softball pants, long socks and a shirt without a team logo on it–families have the opportunity to include information about a player’s prior team history on our registration form, if they choose.

Coaches will personally contact each player who attends tryouts within a week, usually sooner.

How much does playing for Stealth cost?
The amount varies depending on the coach and level, but families can expect to pay between $800 – $1,000 for the year. This covers uniforms, equipment bags, tournament and league fees, and indoor training space during winter months. Many teams choose to do fundraisers to help offset these costs.

What is the time commitment for Stealth players?
Most teams start practice in the fall, twice a week. Coaches often try to offer scrimmages and other playing opportunities before the weather gets cold, so families can probably count on some weekend play in September or October. Over the winter months, practice and playing times vary–some teams practice indoors weekly and play a local winter league, which could mean a game or two every other Friday night. Stealth’s main playing season starts in the spring beginning around April, when players are able to get back outside. League play could include a couple of games a week, and there are many local and regional tournament opportunities for our teams throughout the summer. Most teams wrap up in July.
