Abby Dolan/Matt Douglass Awards
Every season, the South Lyon Junior League presents a special award to one individual on each team that best represents, what we feel to be, a true sportsman. This award is called the Matt Douglass Award for boys, and the Abby Dolan for girls.
This award was established many seasons ago for a young boy that loved and worshiped the game of baseball. His ability to play the game was cut short by a debilitating disease. The 2008 season marked the first year of the Abby Dolan Award. Abby is a former SLJL player whose career was cut short by Ewing's Sarcoma, a type of bone cancer. Abby continues her fight against this disease. To honor them, each team is asked to select that one player that shows passion for the game. They are that individual that marks every game and every practice with the willingness to play and learn. They are team players and show great sportsmanship, even when they are in a slump. They are the one that shows love for the game.
